原文：Akmal Shaikh, a 53-year-old man from London, is likely to be the first European Union citizen executed in China in 50 years. He was convicted of carrying up to four kilograms of heroin at the Urumqi Airport in September 2007. His final appeal -- to the People's Supreme Court -- was rejected Monday and he was immediately scheduled to be executed on December 29.
